With the rapid advancement of technology, electronic devices have become an indispensable part of our daily lives. However, the responsible management of electronic waste presents a significant challenge.

Recyclekaro specializes in the processing of electronic scrap, a complex and diverse category of materials. Our expertise enables us to proficiently recover and refine various types of precious metal-bearing e-scrap. We concentrate on extracting valuable elements such as silver, gold, palladium, and copper, employing an assay-based settlement method. Materials like aluminum and iron are excluded from our processing, and we recommend their removal prior to delivery whenever feasible. Furthermore, for safety considerations, the removal of batteries is mandatory before transporting e-scrap to our facility.

Our commitment to recycling end-of-life electronics not only prevents these materials from ending up in landfills but also reduces the demand for newly mined metals. Environmental sustainability remains our top priority, and we maintain strict compliance with regulations and industry standards. Our recycling processes are intricately designed to minimize the environmental impact of e-scrap, ensuring the safe recovery of valuable resources and the proper handling of hazardous materials.

E-waste Recycling Industry in India

IT goods and telecommunication products are mostly preferred by formal E-waste recyclers

Refurbishment

Recycling

Dismantling (manual)

Metals like Cu, Al, Fe, plastics, glass, rubber are removed and sold/ traded in the open market

PCBs from consumer durables have low metal content and mostly sold to the informal sector for recycling as it is not viable for the formal sector due to overhead costs

Refining

Copper processing is done by most companies. However, very few have metal refining facilities

Second-hand laptops/cell phones screen keypads are replaced and sold at 8 to 10 times the price of a second hand good

This sector comprises 20-30% by volume and 50-60% by value of the E-waste recycling business

Overall product life will be impacted by refurbishment

Obsolete laptops/mobile phones, telecom tower components are dismantled and visible components such as PCBs, integrated chips, RAM, hard drives, etc. are stripped and recycled

Overview of India E-waste market (Kt)

Commentary

  • Due to regulations, the Indian E-waste market has witnessed considerable efforts from producers /manufacturers of EEE (as part of EPR targets)

  • The number of registered E-waste dismantlers/recyclers increased from 312 in June 2019 to 472 in April 2022. However, most of them are involved in just manual sorting and mechanical dismantling of E-waste

  • Few recyclers in India have metal recovery facilities with apt environmental controls mechanisms
